Exeter, who led at the interval by two clear goals, were full value for their point at Selhurst Park. Lowton was a tower of strength in the City defence, while Hurst and McCambridge were dashing and fearless attackers. There were 12,000 spectators.

The teams took the field in cold showery weather, and heavy rain and hailstones fell just as the match commenced. Lowton won the toss, and Exeter had the advantage of the driving wind behind them. Jack Scott and Ebdon scored for the City in the first half. In the second period Blackman and A. Dawes, the latter with a penalty kick against Bamsey for hands, scored for the Palace.
