EXETER CITY 1
TORQUAY UNITED 1.

The Bank Holiday clash between Exeter City and Torquay United was "Devon Derby-ish" and "Easter Monday-ish." In other words it was a contest featured by tearaway methods and not by the finer arts of football. Torquay United were a better side than Exeter on this showing, and the City were rather fortunate to preserve a point. The attendance was 8,657, gate receipts £492.

EXETER CITY

Referee: Mr F.W.Reeve, of Devonport.

TORQUAY UNITED

In the second half the Grecians were frequently beaten for pace, and their efforts at combined play were very weak. It can best be described as a fade-out, the like of which has so often been witnessed this season. Yet it was during this period that Exeter had their best chance of the match. Ebdon centred from the right, and when the ball reached the goalmouth a touch would have sufficed to put it in the net. Tom Scott, however, failed to connect as the leather travelled along the ground and out of reach of Maggs. Torquay were lucky on that occasion, but Exeter were every bit as fortunate when in the very last minute Hunt hesitated and by doing so failed to score from right in front of goal. Ebdon gave Exeter the lead after five minutes, a previous shot by Angus having rebounded to him off the crossbar. Hutchinson equalised five minutes after the interval. Torquay United Reserves beat Exeter City Reserves by five goals to nil in the Southern League match at Plainmoor.

Charity Match
LYMPSTONE v EXETER CITY.

Although Lympstone set up a fine and gallant defence against the clever passing of an Exeter City team in a charity match at Lympstone on Wednesday evening, the villagers were defeated by five goals to one. Lympstone are the winners of the Morrison-Bell Cup this season, and the handsome trophy was on view at the ground. The Lympstone Town Band was in attendance, and the match was well supported, the proceeds being devoted to the Boat Shelter Restoration and Extension Fund.

THE GAME.
Foxwell, the Lympstone goalkeeper, dealt successfully with the early attacks of the City, and Kirk cleared from J. Bennett. After a quarter of an hour Ebdon worked his way through to give Exeter the lead, but a powerful shot by Hurst, and a flying header by McCambridge were both punched away by Foxwell. Hurst scored Exeter's second goal after Fantham had struck the post, and at half-time Exeter led by two goals to nil. A goal by Ebdon was followed by one by Smith for Lympstone, and in the last fifteen minutes Robinson scored twice for the City, both goals being headers, and both following corner kicks. The match was refereed by Mr. Hooper, of Topsham. Exeter City:- Kirk; Risdon, Miller; Haller, Robinson, Fantham; Hurst, Ebdon, McCambridge, McLean, McArdle.

Friendly
Newton Poppleford v Exeter City

Exeter City played an enjoyable friendly match at Newton Poppleford against the local team, and won by six goals to one. The game was contested in the true sporting spirit throughout, and the villagers' defence did well against their experienced opponents.
