Match 33

Wednesday, February 3rd.
EXETER CITY 3 CARDIFF CITY 1.
After their F.A.Cup exertions against Leicester City, the Exeter City giant-killers were engaged in a League match with Cardiff City at St James's Park on Wednesday afternoon. Exeter fielded an unchanged team, but Cardiff made an alteration or two, and were without Pugh and Talbot, their best forwards.

CARDIFF CITY
Welsby is the former Exeter City winger, whilst Melaniphy was with Plymouth Argyle before his transfer to Cardiff. About 3,000 spectators saw the game open on even lines, both teams encountering difficulty on the very heavy ground. Brown distinguished himself by cleverly holding up early attacks by Cardiff, and at the other end Poland cleared from Bussey. The City (Exeter that is) were unlucky not to score when a powerful shot by Bussey cannoned against the inside of the Cardiff goalpost and re bounded into the field. Poland was well beaten. A claim by Exeter for a penalty was refused when one of the Welsh team's backs handled the ball five yards from his goal.
POPE'S OPENING GOAL.
The Grecians were not to be denied, however, and following a good left-wing movement Owen centred across the goal with force. Poland, charged by Williams, only partially cleared, and Pope who quickly ran in, drove hard into the net. Smith increased Exeter's lead, and in the second half Bussey scored for Exeter and Pinxton for Cardiff.
