EXETER CITY 1 ALDERSHOT 2.
Weak defensive play by Exeter allowed Aldershot to establish an early lead of two goals at St James's Park this afternoon. The first came after fifteen minutes from Walls, who cut in from the wing to beat Chesters with a fast rising shot from twelve yards. A few minutes later Angus let Walls through and the right winger centred to Butt to turn the ball into the net. Exeter rallied before the interval and reduced Aldershot's lead through Smith, who scored with a brilliant header from Williams's centre after that player had beaten two defenders for possession.
City:- Chesters; Brown, Boyle; Clarke, Angus, Shadwell; F.Smith, Bussey, Williams, Pope, Owen.
Aldershot:- Wright; Wade, Williams; Buller, Robson, Diaper; Walls, Clarke, Ray, Butt, Proud.
In the second half Aldershot faded out as an attacking force, but practically all Exeter's work was spoiled by weak passing and poor finishing. Walls missed one easy chance for the visitors, shooting weakly and straight at Chesters when he was clean through. Exeter subsequently did all the attacking but could not get the ball past Wright. In the last few minutes Owen and Pope changed places but there was no improvement.

ALDERSHOT RESERVES 2
EXETER CITY RESERVES 2.
Exeter City Reserves were forced to defend for long periods in the first half at Aldershot, and Tierney had more to do than Robb, and Oliver was unlucky with a shot which flashed across the goalmouth. Yet it was Exeter who scored first, Urmson giving Robb no chance with a rising shot from short range. That was after 17 minutes. When Aldershot were awarded a penalty five minutes later Temple missed the goal altogether. Just before the interval Exeter broke away and Scott increased the lead with a shot which Robb allowed to slip out of his hands. Dickson and Gallantree scored for Aldershot in the second half
