EXETER CITY

This was one of the best opening games of the season for several years. The interest never flagged and the game underwent frequent transformations to sustain the interest. Exeter started off on a top note. Then they fell away and Newport scored twice in quick succession shortly before the interval. The City staged a great second half rally in which Farrell scored two goals. On the form they showed in this match the Grecians are a greatly improved side. The defence is better knit than it was last season and the wing positions have been considerably improved. Liddle on this showing is the City's best outside left since John Dockray. Many times in this game he left the opposition standing.
