Rain threatened just before the kick off and there was a high wind blowing from end to end of the ground. Brown was loudly cheered by his old admirers. He won the toss and Exeter were first to attack, but a long kick by Wallace went over the line for a goal kick. Exeter's defence, with Tierney again outstanding took the honours in this match, though the City were lucky to save a point. Had Watford possessed a forward who could shoot the result would have been in no doubt long before the end. W.Davies was the chief culprit, his crowning mistake being to shoot at least two yards wide from the penalty spot. The penalty award, ten minutes before the finish, was given for hand-ball by a City defender.

EXETER CITY RESERVES v
DEVON AMATEUR XI.

In ideal playing conditions at St James's Park the City Reserves met a team representative of the East and North Devon areas. After a shot from W.Clarke had hit the crossbar Chris Southerley, of Chudleigh, opened the scoring for the Reserves. Pike in the second half increased Exeter's lead, whereupon Bluck, of Dawlish, scored for the County. Pollard shot wide from a penalty kick, and W.Clarke (2), Pope, and Sutherley added further goals for the City Reserves, who won by six goals to one.
