It is difficult to understand why Angus, the best of Exeter City's half backs at Millwall, and Bussey, the craftiest attacker, were dropped for today's match. Each of these players was badly missed, for Bussey would have given the forward line a touch of steadiness and Angus would have strengthened the defensive resources. The City, three goals down, fought back well to get on terms. They then undid all their good work by conceding two more goals in the second half. Tierney was below form and so was Shadwell. The irony of today's defeat is that two of Gillingham's goals were scored by Fred Smith. He played a good game. So did Archie Young.

DARTFORD 4
EXETER CITY RESERVES 1.

Although Bussey gave Exeter City Reserves the lead in the twelfth minute they fell behind to two goals scored by Prout in the 25th and 45th minutes. Heavy rain in the second half made ball control difficult and both sides missed chances. Smithson scored twice in this half to give Dartford a comfortable victory.
