EXETER CITY
A smart centre-forward, brisk forward play, and sound and steady tactics brought Exeter victory in their Southern Section Cup-tie at Southend on Wednesday evening. Opposed to a team that indulged in sudden raids, the City adopted a role of calm calculation, and although they were 1-0 behind at half-time, it appeared certain that at least they would not lose. Miles and Liddle were dangerous wing forwards, and Bowl a leader who never let an opportunity slip.
CITY TAKE CHARGE.
Southend's goal, scored after 43 minutes, was the result of Lane's clever run on the left, and his final pass enabled Bell to score from close range. After forcing two quick corners immediately upon the start of the second half Southend lost the initiative, and were afterwards only a very poor team. The City took complete charge, and Bowl scored his goals in the 73rd and 82nd minutes.
