EXETER CITY
Torquay were a lucky side to beat Exeter City at Plainmoor today. The City deserved at least a point on the strength of their play in the second half. All the scoring came after the interval, and weak goalkeeping was responsible as much as anything else for Exeter's defeat. Tierney, who was again nervous and unreliable, should have saved both the Torquay goals, which were scrappy affairs.

James Miller, the City's new goalkeeper from Kilmarnock, made his debut today in the Reserves' Southern League match with Dartford at St James's Park, where the attendance was 500. Ben Clarke, a full-back playing at centre-forward, gave an amazing display for the City Reserves, scoring five goals out of nine. The other goals were obtained by Pope, Farrell, and W.Clarke (2).

INJURED GOALKEEPER CARRIES ON
Parkin's Plucky Display for Newport County
Inability to turn chances to account was a fault which Newport County never overcame in their Southern League match at Exeter on Wednesday. Their approach work was as good as Exeter's but there the similarity ended. Whereas Exeter possessed thrust, the County repeatedly made the mistake of passing and re-passing when within shooting range. That was a big reason for Newport defeat by four goals to nil. Owen was the one man who had ideas of markmanship, but even he faded out after the interval. Outstanding in the Newport team was Parkin, goal-keeper, who performed wonders, although he received a shoulder injury just after the interval. With one arm practically useless, he defied Exeter in the closing stages. Foote was frequently out-manœuvred by B. Clarke, the Exeter centre-forward, who scored three goals. The City's other goal was obtained by W. Clarke
