Aldershot Res. (a)

Saturday, October 2nd 1937.
SWINDON TOWN 3 (Fowler 2, Lucas) EXETER CITY 0.

Half-time 1-0.

Swindon: Wildman; Swinden, Smith; Cousins, Morrall, Wilcockson; Jones, Fowler, Woods, Lucas, Hetherington.
Exeter: Miller; Brown, Wallace; Kavanagh, Davies, Angus; Miles, Bussey, B.Clarke, Bowl, Liddle.
Referee: Capt.G.Hamilton-Jones, of London.

History had a chance to repeat itself today in acceptable fashion. Visiting Swindon with Ben Clarke, erstwhile full-back, at centre forward, Exeter City recalled that when, nearly fourteen years ago their attack was led at Swindon by a nominal full-back (Andy Flynn) they recorded their first away win of the season. There was unfortunately no repetition today. Exeter gave a feeble display and were deservedly beaten by three clear goals. And had it not been for Swindon's indifferent marksmanship the score at the end of this one-sided match would have reached higher proportions.

SWINDON TOWN RESERVES 0.

At St James's Park, Exeter.

RESERVES BEAT SWINDON RES.

The City Reserves and Swindon Reserves met at St. James's Park on Saturday, in a Southern League match, the result of which was the exact opposite to that between the first teams at Swindon the City Reserves winning by 3-0. It was an interesting game, both sides showing some good football. and second team matches of this calibre are worthy of better support. W. Clarke, the outside-left, scored the home team's first goal at the end of 19 minutes' play, following good work by Storey and Ebdon. The visiting goalkeeper, Bryan, who, incident- ally, put up a very good display, saved a fierce shot from Pope at point-blank range. It was Pope who obtained the second goal, five minutes after half-time, and Coulston was responsible for the third. The Reserves did very well in this match, and. as stated, it was an entertaining encounter to watch.

City Reserves:- Tierney; Topping, S.Barnes; Farrell; Coulston, Storey, Ebdon, Pope, W.Clarke. Shadwell, A.Coles,
Swindon Reserves:- Bryan; France, Bailey; Chambers, Parkhouse, Wise; Walker, Emery, Tole, Musgrave, Bradley.
Referee:- Mr J.Clatworthy, of Plymouth.
Scorers:- Clarke (first half), Pope, and Coulston.

CITY RESERVES CRASH AT ALDERSHOT
Wednesday, October 6th 1937.
ALDERSHOT RESERVES 5
EXETER CITY RESERVES 0.

When Topping and Miller got in each other's way in the fifth minute at the Recreation Ground, Hay scored for Aldershot. Aldershot continued to have the better of the play, and Hay got another goal after twenty minutes. Shortly after this Hay was forced to retire through injury, but Aldershot remained on top, and at half-time were leading by 2 goals to nil. Three more goals were registered in the second half without reply from Exeter. Bamsey, returning to duty after an absence of a few weeks through injury, was not a success, and appears to be out of practice.

City Reserves:- Miller; Topping, Kavanagh, A. Coles, Bamsey, Farrell; Coulston, Storey, B. Clarke, Pope, W. Clarke.
