BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION 6 EXETER CITY 1.
The Goldstone Ground, Brighton, has been an unlucky one for the City in recent seasons, and today's happenings were accord in with past events. Exeter cracked badly in the second half, and were beaten by 6 goals to 1.

Exeter City:
The City did not deserve to be beaten by so large a margin, but apart from occasional spasms their football was unconvincing. The left flank of Exeter's defence was no match for the Hurst and Wilson right wing. The City's old player was just about the best forward in the game. Exeter, playing up the slope in the opening half, were first to score, Millar using his speed to capture a ball from Turnbull, then driving into the net off the underside of the crossbar. Goffey equalised and Law put Brighton in front. The City defence collapsed after the interval, and further goals were added by Hurst, Stephens, Wilson, and Law.

COLCHESTER 1.
Riley, formerly of Northampton Town, who was signed by Exeter City last week, made his home debut in this match. He made ideal partner for Liddle, and his clever scheming often spelt an trouble for the Colchester defence. Pritchard opened the scoring for Colchester after half an hour, but Bussey equalised midway through the second half. Exeter went ahead ten minutes later when a free kick by Bamsey was headed into his own net by Worton. It was Colchester's first defeat of the season.

PLYMOUTH ARGYLE 6
EXETER CITY 4.
From the Plymouth Argyle viewpoint nothing was more pleasing in the Devon Championship first round match against Exeter City on Wednesday evening than the success of the left wing partnership of Smith and Dyer. All but one of the first five Argyle goals resulted from well placed centres by Dyer. The Argyle team as a whole played delightful football, and led 5 to 1 at half-time.

Exeter's attack was less impressive, the tendency to elaborate too much spoiling their approaches. Ebdon and Turnbull were too slow and were frequently robbed in possession of the ball, and the home defence, with plenty of time to recover, had an easy task. Bowl was Exeter's most dangerous forward, while Fellowes always used the ball to good advantage. Brown played his usual steady game and was the best of the City rearguard. The scorers for Argyle were Smith, Hullett (2), Dyer, Lane (2), and for Exeter Bowl (2), Rich, and Rae (own goal). The game was witnessed by less than a thousand spectators.
The Argyle will meet Torquay United in the final next Wednesday afternoon at Plainmoor.
