CLAPTON ORIENT 2
EXETER CITY 1.
Saturday, December 18th 1937.
Exeter City made their first visit to the new Clapton Orient ground at Brisbane Road, Leyton, today, and were beaten, though undeservedly, by two goals to one. Clapton's second goal was a bad one and should never have been allowed. The Orient were awarded a free kick and when the ball was sent into the penalty area a scramble ensued in the course of which Church was impeded by Crawford and slipped. Exeter's goalkeeper was kicked and pushed, with the result that he was unable to clear his lines. And when Tully ultimately gained possession he had nothing to do but drive the ball into the empty net.

It was altogether an uninteresting struggle, and neither team overcame the handicap caused by a strong diagonal wind. Tully opened the scoring for Clapton after 25 minutes, Farrell heading the equaliser against his old club just on half-time.
The official attendance was 4,309.
CITY RESERVES v PLYMOUTH LEAGUE XI.
This afternoon's match at St James's Park between Exeter City Reserves and a Plymouth and District League eleven could hardly be termed a popular attraction, the attendance being below 300. The City, with Ebdon at left-back, Pope at left-half, Pollard at centre-forward, and the amateur Pike, at outside-left, won by six goals to two. Exeter's goals were obtained by Pollard (three), Pike, McGill, and Storey. Jones scored both the Plymouth goals.
