NEWPORT COUNTY 0
EXETER CITY 0.

In a game which was as keen and exciting as a Cup-tie, the City did well to draw with Newport at Somerton Park. Exeter's backs and goalkeeper were unbeatable, and a pleasing feature was the return to form of the half-back line. There were ten thousand spectators present at the start, and the home side were given a big welcome, as befitted their exalted League position. Newport are top, and Aldershot second. Exeter
are tenth, with thirteen points out of eleven matches.

No goals were scored, but the City should have had one in the first half when a great dribble was made by Ebdon, who ran at least forty yards and kept the ball under perfect control. All the Newport defence expected him to pass, but he kept going and just skimmed the crossbar with a shot which had Ferguson beaten all the way. This splendid effort by the young City inside-left raised the biggest cheer of the afternoon.

SOUTHERN LEAGUE CUP-TIE.
CITY RESERVES 2
TORQUAY RESERVES 1.

From practically the last kick of the first half Exeter City Reserves gained a rather fortunate lead over Torquay Reserves in this afternoon's Southern League Cup-tie. Millar fell when tackled by Perry, who was penalised, and in spite of protests by Torquay the referee adhered to his decision. Turnbull took the penalty and easily beat Maggs with a well directed shot.

City Reserves. Blore; Mellish and Angus; Barnes, Pollard, and Coles; Turnbull, Bussey, Millar, Riley, and Sutherley.
Torquay Reserves. Maggs; Bowen and Perry; Davies, Kingwell, and Brown; Rhodes, Warren, Markham, Kirkwood, and Shelley.

Torquay were slightly the better of two moderate teams in the second half, but neither goal was seriously threatened. Riley, who gave Millar the pass from which that player scored the second goal, was Exeter's best forward.

YEOVIL SIGN EXETER TRIALIST.

George Green, the 22 years old inside forward, who joined the City on a month's trial but was not retained, has signed on for Yeovil and Petters United, and will play for their reserve team on Saturday next against Bristol Rovers "A" team. During his short stay at Exeter Green did not have a very good chance of settling down, for he injured an ankle during early training before the season started. Before coming to Exeter he played for both Bradford City and Bradford Park Avenue. Gueran, who joined Exeter City after playing for Southampton and Margate, has not been retained.
  • Sid Gueran, who joined Exeter City after playing for Southampton and Margate, has not been retained.
