Match 14
5th November 1938
Watford (a)

Southern League
Worcester City (h)

Saturday, November 5th 1938.
WATFORD 4 EXETER CITY 2.

In a game that underwent many transformations Exeter City were beaten by Watford by four goals to two, but the result hardly did justice to the City. They had every bit as much of the game as their opponents, but had to pay dearly for defensive lapses. Church was below his usual form and might have saved at least two of the goals. There were 5,000 spectators.

Exeter City:
After Dunderdale had opened the scoring for Watford, Ebdon and Rich put Exeter in front. Lewis beat Church from 25 yards with a chance shot which would have been saved 99 times out of 100. Watford scored twice in the second half through Barnett with a high shot which Church knocked into his own goal and another long range drive by Lewis, which also should have been saved.
