Swindon Town Res. (a)

EXETER CITY 0 SWINDON TOWN 0.

Saturday, February 12th 1938.
At St James's Park, Exeter.
Attendance 6,000.

Neither team succeeded in mastering the strong diagonal wind at St James's Park to-day. Passes frequently went astray, and in the prevailing conditions the result, a goal-less draw, was fair.

SWINDON TOWN
Exeter did more attacking than their opponents, but Swindon in several breakaways were more dangerous. The Railwaymen kept up their good record at Exeter, where they have lost only once in seven seasons. Both defences played well, with Bamsey outstanding for Exeter. Bowl was a tremendous worker in the home attack, and Coulston in the second half was brilliant.

A left wing attack from either side was beaten off in the early play, and then Packer came into prominence with two praiseworthy individual efforts, from the second of which Moreland scored for Swindon with a fast low shot from the edge of the penalty area. Exeter fought back very stubbornly and the home defence seemed none too reliant. Fortunately for Swindon, however, the finishing ability of Exeter was poor. After 28 minutes Hetherington put on Swindon's second goal. Farrell scored for Exeter after receiving from Pollard. Each side scored twice in the second half.
