Saturday, February 19th 1938.
At the Recreation Ground, Aldershot. Attendance 5,000.
Exeter City's second away success of the season was obtained at Aldershot this afternoon, and it was a goal by Liddle ten minutes from the end which did the trick. Reg Clarke, the City's former half back and captain, was at the ground, but not included in the team to oppose the Grecians. He could not understand why he had been left out, and stated that he had been looking forward to playing in this match.

Exeter City:- Church; B.Clarke,Wallace;

Referee:- Mr E.W. Vokes, of Bath.
Considering that they were handicapped by having McGill almost a passenger nearly throughout the second half Exeter did well. The inside-left twisted his ankle in a tussle with Kelly and after an absence of about fifteen minutes returned to play on the left wing.

REMARKABLE GOAL
Argyle Reserves' Victory At Exeter
Plymouth Argyle Res improved their position at the top of the Southern League table by beating Exeter City Res, at St. James's Park by 2 goals to 1. Their victory came from a remarkable goal by S. Black sixteen minutes from the end. His corner kick sent the ball across the goalmouth, hit the far upright, and rebounded into the net without another player touching it.
Actually, the Exonians had much the better of the game, but their finishing was disappointing Both sides had narrow escapes in a goalless first half, when Hullett and Ebdon, the respective leaders, got near in some rousing raids. Hullett made sure, however, early in the second period when he hit the crossbar, and scored from the rebound. It was not long before Exeter equalized. Davies passed, and Pollard and Clark raced together for the ball. In trying to deflect it the Argyle centre-half put through his own goal. Exeter renewed their attacks. and Ebdon, who led the forwards in great style, frequently caused danger. Then came Black's remarkable goal, which completed the scoring.
City Reserves:- Tierney; S.Barnes, Topping; Davies, A.Coles, Ebdon; Miles, Farrell, Pollard, Pope, N.Pike.
Argyle Reserves:- Roberts; Silk, Dyer;
McColgan, Clark, Ryan; Morgan, Brown, Hullett, Fletcher, Black.
