EXETER CITY 3.
Saturday, February 26th 1938,
at Field Mill, Mansfield.
Attendance 7,000.
Without McGill, injured at Aldershot, Exeter City made a change at inside-left, where Ebdon filled the vacancy. Ebdon, a local, and as willing a player as any on the club's books, was rewarded with this opportunity following a sterling display for the Reserves on Saturday last against Plymouth Argyle Reserves. Stimpson, formerly of Exeter City, and Bungay, formerly of the Argyle, were in the ranks of the "Stags."

EXETER CITY
The City fully deserved their success, as their forwards were always the more dangerous and they accepted their chances every time they came their way. The City's halves are due for a share of the credit. They worked tirelessly throughout and held their opponents in a vice. Shadwell was brilliant both before and after the interval. Bowl was a great leader and continually threatened danger until he was injured just before the end. Stimpson gave a good display against his old colleagues.
Scorers:-
Ebdon (first half), Bowl and Coulston for the City,
Horne and Turner for Mansfield Town.

In brisk opening exchanges Norwich advanced on the right, and Law drove the ball into the side netting. Maintaining their early pressure the "Canaries" continued to keep the ball in the City's. half, but were checked by a steady home defence, with Brown in his best form. First Pollard and then Warren crashed the ball against the bar, with Jones beaten each time. The only goal of the game was scored by Manders eight minutes from the end, and in the last minute Topping missed a penalty for Exeter
