WORCESTER CITY 6
EXETER CITY RESERVES 1.
Exeter City Reserves, who defeated Torquay Reserves 2-1 in the preliminary round of the Southern League Cup, on October 26th, were themselves beaten by Worcester City in the first round, at Worcester, this afternoon. At one stage Exeter looked like making a fight of it, but they were unable to match the fast pace that was set by Worcester.
Worcester City:- Jones; Reece and Cottrill; Dodds, Gibbons, and Lowry; Miles, Bennett, Melaniphy, Kirk, and Burns.
City Reserves:- Blore; Little and Thompson; Barnes, Gater, and Coles; Kemp, Turnbull, Mellish, Pollard, and Millar.
There was little about the game to suggest that it was Cup tie, an unusually high standard of football being set by both sides. Melaniphy and Kirk scored for Worcester before the interval. In the second half Burns, Bennett (2), and Gibbons (penalty) added the other goals.
