EXETER CITY 3 ALDERSHOT 3.

Saturday, January 7th 1939.

Exeter City continued their "drawing" habit at St James's Park. today, and shared the points for the fourth time off the reel. Six goals were scored in the game with Aldershot, and the City were two in front at one stage. It looked as if Aldershot's equaliser, obtained near the close, was offside, but it is only fair to state that the visitors for the greater part of the game were the cleverer team. Church was easily Exeter's best player, and but for his perfect display in goal Aldershot would have won.

Aldershot:

Reg Clarke, who has played more games for Exeter City than any other player, captained Aldershot, and when he led the team out he received a wonderful ovation from his many admirers. Clarke lost the toss to Fellowes, but was soon prominent, first when he checked an advance by Bowl down the middle and then when he started an Aldershot attacking movement with a beautiful ground pass to Chalmers. Bowl and Ebdon scored for Exeter and Ray for Aldershot. At half time the City led by two goals to one. Bowl restored the City's two goals lead in the second half, but Rayner and Chalmers in turn beat Church to earn their side a well-deserved point.
