BOURNEMOUTH & BOSCOMBE 2 EXETER CITY 0.

Saturday, February 4th 1932.

The youthful Bournemouth side, with eight changes from the team which played at St James's Park on Wednesday, again defeated the City this afternoon, this time by two goals to nil. They were the faster and more forceful side, and much quicker to size up the possibilities of the situation, and these were the vital factors in their success.

Exeter City:
Although not denying that Bournemouth were the better side, the City should have profited with some of the opportunities which came their way, especially in the last half-hour. During this period they were attacking for long spells only to fritter away chance after chance. Church had no chance of saving either of Bournemouth's goals, and the backs defender stubbornly. Fellowes, by reason of his sound constructive play, was Exeter's best half-back, and of the forwards Riley stood out as the one member of the line who seemed capable of making a first-time pass accurately, and he opened up many promising attacks which his colleagues failed to improve upon. Whittam scored for Bournemouth after fifteen minutes. Ebdon and Bowl changed places after the interval, but it was all to no avail, and Redfern cut inside Little and swerved past Angus to ram the ball home for Boscombe's second goal.

CITY RESERVES 0
ARSENAL RESERVES 1.

Arsenal "A" took the lead within five minutes of the start in their Southern League match with the City Reserves at St James's Park this afternoon. The movement was initiated by Smith, who forced his way down the centre and passed to Walley, who netted without difficulty from an unmarked position less than ten yards out.
City Reserves: Blore Mellish Little Barnes Bamsey Walker Kemp Turnbull Ebdon Riley Millar
Arsenal Reserves: Swindin Young Tooze Smith Waller Pugh Holden Nelson Walley Glass Walsh
Two thousand spectators witnessed the match. The Arsenal in the early stages were faster, and Blore saved at point-blank range from Holden, who was able to cut in after a sparkling and fast inter-passing movement which left Exeter's defence floundering.
BLORE FOILS HOLDEN.
Although not in their opponents' class the City improved, and in one hot attack Swindin had to pull down a shot by Turnbull right under the crossbar. A centre from Walker was headed out from the goalmouth, and then the Arsenal gave another glimpse of their power. Nelson had the defence running the wrong way when he finally passed to Holden, but again the winger was foiled by Blore, who ran out to fall on the ball. Exeter continued to press, and the Arsenal goal had a big shock when Swindin fumbled a shot from Millar, and only just managed to clear at the second attempt.

IPSWICH RESERVES 2.

The Ipswich goal narrowly escaped downfall in the opening five minutes, when Riley dribbled through and passed to Millar, who drove the ball fiercely over the bar. All the attacking came from Exeter and the Ipswich defence was subjected to severe pressure, particularly when Cowie kicked a shot from Kemp out of the goalmouth with the goalkeeper out of position.
City Reserves: Blore Clarke Causley Barnes Bamsey Walker Kemp Turnbull Rowe Riley Millar
Ipswich Reserves: Brown Shufflebotham Gorman Rodgers Cowie Hutcheson Reid McGourty Rasmussen O'Leary Cope

It was an interesting struggle, with Exeter the more polished side. The opening goal, after twelve minutes, was the outcome of a pretty move by Kemp, who tricked Hutcheson and than worked his way into the middle before giving Riley a low pass between the backs. Quickly moving into position Riley drove the ball, hard and low, past Brown and into the net. Exeter continued in the second half to do everything but score, and eventually it was Ipswich who broke away to equalise. Reid gained possession in the penalty area and lobbed the ball high into the net well out of the reach of Blore.
