TORQUAY UNITED 0
EXETER CITY 1.
To Exeter City fell the distinction of being the first side to defeat Torquay United this year. A first half goal by Riley was sufficient to bring Exeter a victory which they just deserved. They had the better of the first half and unlike the F. A. Cup tie between the clubs earlier this season, the Grecians did not falter when subjected to severe pressure after the interval.

Exeter City:
Tom Halliday, signed from Norwich City yesterday, made his debut for Exeter at right-back, and played an excellent game. But the real star of the City defence was Church. He made over a dozen praiseworthy saves, some of which bordered on the brilliant. It was fitting that Riley should have scored the goal that won the game, for beyond doubt he was Exeter's most accomplished player in attack. Indeed one could go further and describe him as the best forward on view. The attendance was 8,000.
