EXETER CITY 3 NEWPORT COUNTY 1.
at St James's Park.

CITY'S SHOCK FOR THE LEAGUE LEADERS.

Exeter City's great triumph over Newport County, the Southern Section leaders, was acclaimed by the season's biggest crowd at St James's Park. The Grecians were in no way flattered by their winning margin of three goals to one against opponents who did not look like а promotion side on this showing. Apart from the opening quarter of an hour Newport were very ordinary. The football was lacking in quality, and towards the end they were robust spoilers, that is all. And they failed even to make a good job of that.

Newport County: -

Robustness by itself is insufficient to win matches. That is why Newport failed today. Bowl (2, 1 penalty) and Riley were the men who scored for Exeter. Brinton with a penalty for hands against Halliday scored for Newport.

The attendance was 10,000.
