Match 34
11th March 1939
Watford (h)

Saturday, March 11th 1939

EXETER CITY 1 WATFORD 3.

Sadly deficient in powers of anticipation and consequently last to the ball nearly every time, the City crashed to Watford, who were easily the more intelligent combination, at Exeter today. Watford on this showing are vastly superior to Newport County, and they were worthy winners.

Exeter City:- Church; Halliday and Clarke; Walker, Angus, and Fellowes; Turnbull, Riley, Bowl, Ebdon, and Rich.

Watford: McHugh; O'Brien and Lewis;
Reed, Armstrong, and Woodward; Jones, Barnett, Dunderdale, Evans, and Davies.

All Watford's goals were obtained by Dunderdale, two before the interval. Riley, the only City forward to shine, was responsible for Exeter's goal in the second half.
