Until today Exeter City had not lost a match this season, but on the form shown against Aldershot the record had to go. The Grecians were outplayed and outpaced in a game which greatly disappointed the home supporters. The City were yards slower than a sprightly Aldershot side which used the ball intelligently and smartly and worked well together. Two of Aldershot's goals were the outcome of defensive blunders and another was due to slackness in marking following a throw-in. There was an absence of determination and lack of enterprise in the Exeter ranks, and the old fault of staying off and waiting on the ball was a glaring weakness which manifested itself over and over again in the Grecians' play. Latham was a poor deputy for Jack Blood at centre half, his lack of experience being painfully apparent. He was weak under pressure and Aldershot were not slow to realise that the value of playing the ball down the middle would pay dividends.
