BRISTOL ROVERS 2 (Butterworth, Talbot)
EXETER CITY 1 (Kernick)
Half-time score Rovers 1 City 0.
Attendance 9,200.
Bristol Rovers:- Bingham; Topping, Watkins; McGahie, Warren, Whitfield; Butterworth, Hibbs, Lambden, Talbot, Clark.
Exeter City:- Goodfellow; Murray, Brown; Walker, Blood, Jordan; Challis, Franklin, Ebdon, Kernick, Lewis.
When he reverted to his pre-war role of inside forward during the second half at Eastville, Dick Ebdon proved that he has lost none of the aptitude which made him one of the Third Division's most discussed players. Prevailing circumstances have more or less dictated "Digger" should lead the City's attack this season. All who have seen Exeter City in action know Ebdon is a centre forward to be feared, yet it is as an inside left that he probably does better. With room to wander and create openings at inside left Ebdon was at least the equal of Talbot, the Rovers' strong and crafty inside man and better than any other attacker on the field. An interesting match resulted in a win for the Rovers by the odd goal in three. Goodfellow stopped a penalty kick taken by Harry Topping, the former City back. Exeter are now fourth in the League with eight points, Cardiff City, Brighton, and Crystal Palace all having ten.
City Reserves v R.A.F. (Dunkeswell)
In a high-scoring game, watched by nearly 1,500 spectators, at St James's Park Exeter City Reserves on Saturday beat the R.A.F (Dunkeswell) by 8-4. The Reserves had two well-built and clever inside forwards in Hazelhurst and Lambert, but their defence did not impress. The R.A.F., overawed and three goals down early on, made a good recovery, without being able to wipe out the early deficiency.
