New players in Exeter's forward line today were Harry Boye - Karlsen of the Norwegian Air Force and Elliott of the Royal Marines. Elliott is on the books of Bishop Auckland, the famous amateur club. Liddell, the famous Liverpool forward, was selected to lead Crystal Palace's attack, but was replaced at the last minute by Blackman. Even Goodfellow's great goalkeeping could not save Exeter from their second home defeat of the season. The City's guest goalkeeper, who is a Sheffield Wednesday player, played a brilliant role and repeatedly defied the Palace forwards. He saved the seemingly impossible. He was in action from beginning to end, diving from one side of the goal to the other to parry shots and headers which looked certain winners all the way. He leaped to deal confidentally with dangerous cross shots and awkward centres from Kurz and Wilson, the Palace wingmen. Goodfellow's display was worthy to rank alongside the best seen from Dick Pym, Arthur Davies, and other famous custodians who have stood between the sticks for Exeter City. On two occasions the goal-posts saved Exeter, and once, from a penalty, the crossbar came City's rescue.
