Match 12
27th October 1945
ECFC v Bournemouth

CITY LOSE AT HOME. BELOW PAR IN ALL DEPARTMENTS.

Saturday, October 27th 1945.

EXETER CITY 0
BOURNEMOUTH AND BOSCOMBE 3  (Paton, Macdonald, Summerbee)
Half-time score City 0 Boscombe 3.
Attendance 6,500.

Exeter City were badly beaten at home by Bournemouth after losing to the same opponents last week at Dean Court. The Grecians were below par in all departments, the Bournemouth men being much quicker on the ball and more intelligent in method. Whilst the City kept going (in fact their best efforts were made in the second half when facing a three goals deficit) the side could at some stages be labelled as nothing better than an eleven of earnest triers, who however did not possess the necessary thrust, cohesion, or craft. Even Goodfellow shared in the decline.

Gallagher was pitchforked into the centre forward position to replace Ebdon, who is injured, and apart from occupying this unaccustomed position he had played no serious football for two years. Nevertheless Exeter's best attempts came from Gallagher, who had two good headers and a fierce shot saved by the Boscombe goalkeeper.

Exeter City:- Goodfellow; Murray, Roughton; Walker, Blood, Angus; Dalgleish, Bowden, Gallagher, Mitcheson, and Challis.
