The honours of a goalless game went to the Exeter City defence, and the home forwards, held in a vice-like grip, were prevented from scoring for the first time this season. Every man in the Exeter rearguard played a strong and resourceful role, with Goodfellow the star of the proceedings. Ten minutes from the end Clarke, the Cardiff outside left, became injured in a collision with Goodfellow, but resumed after attention by the trainer. There followed a noisy and hostile demonstration by the Welsh crowd against Goodfellow, and a stone and other missiles were thrown on to the field.
