Forgetting the Weymouth and Longfleet encounters which belong to a far off past, Exeter City figured in one of their biggest scoring cup-ties in the return match against Trowbridge Town, winning by 7 goals to 2 and so passing into the second round with an aggregate of 10 to 3 from the two games. It may sound strange in view of the severity of the Town's defeat, but it is none the less true that the City's opponents played much better football than they did on their own ground a week ago. They were not over-blessed with luck at St. James's Park, for with the game less than two minutes old Atack deflected a shot from Ebdon into his own goal. But the City were masters of the situation throughout, and rattled up three goals in the first half and four more afterwards.
