GRECIANS LEADING AT HALF TIME BUT LOSE.
BRIGHTON'S LAST MINUTE VICTORY.
Wednesday, December 19th 1945.
BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION 3 (Moore 2, Watson)
EXETER CITY 2 (Jones, Blood)
Half-time score:- Brighton 0 Exeter City
Not until Moore made a brilliant individual effort late in the game did Exeter City appear to be in danger of defeat at Brighton. The Grecians led by 20 at half time. Brighton drew level and snatched a dramatic victory with the last kick of the match. On the run of the play Exeter were unlucky to lose. For the greater part of the match they were the more workmanlike side despite the fact that Blood was injured midway through the opening period and played afterwards on the left wing. Jones, the City's guest outside right from West Bromwich Albion, had pace and skill. He and Wardle formed a splendid partnership and were the spearheads of Exeter's many first half raids. Jones opened the scoring when he moved in quickly to take advantage of a weak pass back to the Brighton goalkeeper. The injured Blood shot the second goal. Over-confident, Exeter continued to shine in approach work but lost their thrustful ways in front of goal. The home side took heart and Moore reduced the arrears. Watson equalised with a long shot and the second goal by Moore gave Brighton a lucky and unexpected success.
Exeter City: Thomson; Murray, Purvis; Jordan, Blood, Cutting; Jones, Wardle, Walker, Kernick, and Ebdon.
