In view of their bright opening Exeter City's subsequent slump at St. James's Park seemed inexplicable. The decline was as unexpected as it was pronounced. Exeter included in their forward line Jones and Attwood, both Derby County players, while C.Smith, the Torquay outside right is the oldCity winger of season 1936-37. Smith was brought out of the Exeter Wednesday and then to Aberdeen. During the war he assisted Crystal Palace, Clapton Orient, and Derby County.
