Exeter City beat Crystal Palace by 2 goals to 1 in the best game seen at St James's Park this season. There were many thrills and incidents in a well-balanced contest with Exeter at their best early on, and the Palace giving a polished performance after the interval, although two goals behind. The City just about deserved their narrow victory, the foundations of which were laid during a first half display which surpassed anything previously seen this season. The Palace were reduced to a moderate level by an Exeter team which was strong fore and aft. In the second half the Londoners were slightly the better of the two teams, although with a bit of luck Ebdon could have had another two goals for the City during this period.

Nearly 6,500 people saw this match.
