Records were smashed by Exeter City, scoring six goals and conceding one, to establish the club's highest away victory of all time in the Football League. The City played classic football, the ball ran their way, and there was never a time, throughout the game, when Brighton were in with a chance.
HAT TRICK BY OWEN.
Owen, who has reverted with great success to his original position of centre-forward, scored three goals, Wright two, and Wardle one. The home defenders were nonplussed and out-smarted, and had no answer to Exeter's effective and match-winning football. One of Wright's goals was a copybook effort, a thirty yards' drive which flashed into the back of the net before the Brighton goalkeeper could move. It was an amazing performance by Exeter and a sensational result, the more so as Owen, Wright, and Regan were all limping with injuries at the finish.
- The players of both sides were Christmas dinner guests of the vice chairman of Brighton F.C. after the match. Another dinner was given to the City players by the directors on the train journey home.
