SINGLETON PLAYED ON WITH BROKEN WRIST.

ACCIDENT TO EXETER'S GOALKEEPER AT ASHTON GATE.

Saturday, January 18th 1947.

EXETER CITY 2 (Ebdon, Regan)
Half-time: Bristol 1 Exeter 1.

Exeter City:- Singleton; Thompson, Blood; Cutting, Hanford, Walker; Granville, Owen, Ebdon, Wright, Regan.

Singleton is unlikely to play again for several weeks. A fearless act that probably saved his side a point also cost him a broken wrist at Ashton Gate, Bristol, this afternoon. The game had four minutes to run. Bristol were attacking desperately in an endeavour to secure victory when Singleton plunged at the feet of the oncoming Thomas and captured the ball but at the same time in jured his wrist. He refused to leave the field, however, and played on gallantly until the long whistle blew.

AT TOP SPEED
How Exeter Reserves Beat Worcester City

Exeter City Reserves played attractive football in their home Southern League match with Worcester City and their 5-2 victory, though rather flattering, reflected a confident, top- speed display against strong opponents. Features were a hat trick" by Holman, Exeter's young centre-forward, a goal by D. Hutchings, an Axminster amateur making his debut in the City colours, and a fine display by Fellowes, who was the general of the Exeter attack.

S. Trousdale, on Exeter's left wing, gave his inside men good centres, and another Exeter player to impress was Hoyle, in goal. Best goal for Exeter was scored by Fellowes, while Wor- cester's points, netted by Summers and Penn, were both spectacular efforts.

Team:- Hoyle; Murray, Long; G.Downs, Coles, Angus; D.G.Hutchings, Fellowes, Holman, Vaughan, Trowsdale.
