EBDON CHECKED AND CITY ATTACK LOSES ITS PUNCH. MANY CHANCES WASTED IN FIRST HALF.

Saturday, January 25th 1947.
EXETER CITY 1 (Owen)
SWINDON TOWN 1 (Paterson)
Half-time City 0 Swindon 0.

City: Hoyle; Thompson, Blood; Cutting, Hanford, Walker; Wardle. Granville, W.Owen, Ebdon, Wright,
Swindon:- Boulton; Lloyd, Young; Lovesay, Ithell, Painter; J.W.Stephens, Lucas, M. Owen, Paterson, Williams.

Attendance 8,000.

Exeter City lost many chances in the first half against Swindon and they almost lost the match after the interval. Each side scored once and the result in the end was a fair reflex of the game, which seldom rose above average, but often fell below the usual standard seen in the Southern Section of Division Three. The City ought to have profited from their first half supremacy but with Ebdon firmly held by Ithell the home forward line did not inspire as a goal-getting force. Hoyle, deputising for Singleton, gave a satisfactory display in goal, and Wright was the pick of the attack because he always tried to use the ball to advantage.
