BRILLIANT GOAL BY WARDLE. HIGHLIGHT OF THE MATCH AT ST JAMES'S PARK.

Goals by George Wardle are infrequent at St James's Park, but now and again the Exeter inside right scores winners of a classic and spectacular brand. He did so against Leyton Orient this afternoon when he beat three men in a speedy solo dribble and left Tolliday powerless to save a stinging drive. Besides scoring twice Wardle was the star forward in the three-one triumph of the City against very moderate opposition. A craftsman and an opportunist, Wardle looked the complete inside man and stood out in the Exeter attack, which was handicapped when Wright had to go off for 20 minutes with knee trouble in the second half. Ebdon set the City on their winning way by scoring a goal after six minutes. The Grecians were deserving winners, for they dominated the game in the first half and again in the last twenty minutes. Leyton were a poor side, except for Tolliday, Roberts, and Hunt. And it was not until the last few seconds of the game that they scored their goal. Morrad was pushed over in the penalty area, a spot kick was given, and Hunt shot against the base of the upright. Roberts dashed in and obtained possession, and his ground pass was scrambled into the Exeter net by Pullen.
