NOTTS COUNTY 0 EXETER CITY 0

EXETER'S FORM - POINT WELL EARNED AT NOTTINGHAM

If Exeter City can maintain form on Easter Monday in their return game against Notts County similar to that shown in the goalless encounter yesterday at Meadow Lane, they should gain two valuable points, although during periods they had their stout defence to thank, especially when Houghton, the former Aston Villa player, and Cumner, previously with the Arsenal, were on top form.

Exeter however, moved with more speed and precision when they did attack and Brown in the home goal had to be alert on several occasions to save from Endon and Vaughan, the latter deputizing for Wright, who showed glimpses of good form and shot whenever never the opportunity presented itself,

Notts got the ball in the net through Houghton, but a previous infringement which the rightly saw nullified this point and at no other period of the game did they look like scoring, although in the first half they had more of the play but finished poorly. Hoyle was cheered several times by the crowd of 10,000 for his neat work, and Han- ford never gave Jayes, the home leader, much scope.

The second half produced some fast and interesting play, with the City slightly on top, but they too were guilty of bad finishing, although on two occasions the home goal was fortunate to survive shots from Regan and Ebdon which struck defenders with Brown unsighted. The game, although producing no goals, was very interesting throughout and had the City secured both points none of the home supporters could have complained as their approach work at all times was definitely better than that of the County.

In the City side Hoyle, Hanford, Ebdon, and Vaughan were very competent and the best of the home side were Brown, Houghton, Cumner, and Dickson.

Notts:- Brown; Southwell, Corkhill; Gannon, Baxter, Dickson; Houghton, Cumner, Jayes, Sewell, Fallon.

City: Hoyle; Thompson, Blood;
Cutting, Hanford, Walker; Granville, Wardle, Ebdon, Vaughan, Regan.

Attendance 10,000.
