SINGLETON WAS UNLUCKY WHEN THE ROVERS SCORED.
BUT THEIR VICTORY WAS MERITED.
Saturday, April 19th 1947.
BRISTOL ROVERS (Baldie) 1
EXETER CITY
Half-time Rovers 1 City 0.
Rovers:- Weare; Bamford, Watkins; Pitt, Warren, McArthur; Wookey, Hodges, Leamon, Baldie, Carr.
City: Singleton; Thompson, Blood; Owen, Hanford, Walker; Hutchings, Wardle, Ebdon, Wright, Challis.
Bernard Singleton, who made an impressive return to the City team at Eastville, was unlucky when Bristol Rovers scored the only goal of a moderate game. The standard of play suffered because neither side possessed a craftsman capable of mastering the lively ball. Singleton was shaping to deal with a shot from Baldie when the ball was inadverdently deflected by a City defender and rocketed right into the opposite corner at which the shot was aimed. The game was thus won and lost, as it transpired, a matter of two minutes before the interval. The goal was fortunate but Bristol fully merited their victory. In most phases they were Exeter's superiors. They were quicker on the ball and more determined. Not until the closing stages did Exeter gain command and then Ebdon lost a favourable chance through delaying his final effort until he was crowded out by the Bristol defence.

MISSED CHANCES
Exeter Reserves Draw With Hereford
Exeter City Reserves missed several scoring opportunities before Fellowes headed through a centre by Weeks to effect a draw in a Southern League match against Hereford United at St. James' Park. Chief offender was D. Lawes, who, leading the attack, should have scored twice, once when he miskicked with the goal at his mercy. Hereford's goal was from a hard cross-drive by Roberts, a virile centre-forward, whose marksmanship and manœuvring were good.
Team:- Hoyle; Coles, Pearce; Murray, Davey, Angus; Tickell, Fellowes, D.Lawes, Vaughan, D.Weeks.
Scorers:-
Fellowes for Exeter,
Roberts for Hereford.
