Half-time City 1 Reading 0.

Though Exeter City's victory over Reading was limited to only one goal the home side should have won by a more convincing margin. They dominated the game after the interval and there were times in that period when the Reading defenders were harassed into committing many errors. That Exeter's victory was not more pronounced was due to the missing of too many chances through over eagerness. Exeter's luck was out when a header from Evans rebounded from one of the uprights in the first half, and when they were refused a penalty late in the game for a handling offence by Young. The goal which brought the City victory was scored 10 minutes before the interval, and it followed the best constructive movement of the game, which was fast and strenuously contested throughout. Wright initiated the attack by getting the opposing defence running the wrong way before deftly passing to the unmarked Fallon. A perfect centre from the outside-left was flicked back to Evans by Sutherland and Evans did the rest. His flashing drive had the goalkeeper beaten all the way. Sutherland twice got the ball into the Reading net in the second half but each time the score was disallowed because of offside. For part of the second half Bartholomew had to go on the wing on account of a pulled muscle and Fallon performed very well as an emergency centre half.

BATH CITY 1 (Brown)
EXETER CITY RESERVES 1 (Smart)
Southern League Cup-tie at Twerton Park.
Half-time Bath 1 Exeter 0.

Bath City:- Woodley; Owens, Woodman; McLeod, Smith, Caldwell;
McDonough, Merritt, McCulloch, Brown, Ball.
Exeter City Reserves:- Singleton; Coles, S.Rowe; W.Rowe, Davey, Gibson; Hutchings, Smart, Ebdon, Vaughan, Regan.
Referee:- Mr H. Badman, of Street.
Attendance 3,500.

Woodley and Singleton were the most prominent players and a draw was a fair result. The home side, who scored after 35 minutes when Brown, accepting a pass from McCulloch, beat Singleton, showed their best form in the opening 30 minutes. Exeter had no fewer than five of their first-team members, and they should have taken the lead 15 minutes from the start, but Ebdon shot straight at Woodley from about six yards out. Rebounding into play the ball was crashed against an upright, another escape for Bath. Despite the warmth of the evening the speed of the play was continued in the second half, when for about ten minutes Ball, Merritt, Brown, and McDonough were attempting to run Exeter off their feet. Exeter equalised 15 minutes after the interval when Smart worked his way across the penalty area and passed to Ebdon. From the return pass Smart scored with a fast drive that completely baffled Woodley, the former English international goalkeeper.
