EXETER CITY 1(Granville)
LEYTON ORIENT 1 (Thompson own goal)
League 3rd Division South, at St James's Park. Half-time City 1 Orient 0.
The intense heat did not excuse much of the leisurely play of which Exeter City were guilty against Leyton Orient. Neither could the conditions be held responsible for many ill-planned efforts from the Grecians in this disappointing match, which the City were fortunate to draw. While the light ball and hard playing pitch explained why so many passes went adrift these handicaps did not supply a very satisfactory reason for Exeter's poor conception of positional play. The value of finding an open space was neglected by nearly all the City forwards and half backs. The virtue of moving to the ball was only practised on rare occasions. Exeter's goal was obtained by Granville after 25 minutes, and midway through the second half a shot from Chapman was partially saved by Hoyle, but Thompson, running back, accidentally kicked the ball into his own net. There were 10,000 spectators.
City team:- Hoyle; Thompson, Johnstone; Cutting, Gibson, Walker; Granville, Evans, Sutherland, Wright, W. Fallon.

GLOUCESTER CITY WIN AGAIN
Gloucester City repeated their opening success of the season by defeating Exeter 3-1 on the Longlevens ground on Saturday. Seventeen hundred spectators saw them register their second Southern League victory, and were clearly delighted with the result. It would seem a safe bet that if the City keep up this form they will advance quite a number of places in the League table.
Exeter, who had beaten Lovell's and drawn with Bath at Bath, brought a strong side who fought like terriers. At one time they were making a strong bid to share the points, but the City had had a little more in reserve, and deservedly took both points.
In the first half, Gloucester were more effective than Exeter| playing well on a ground that, though nicely prepared, was like a board. A superb shot by Stow after 15 minutes was responsible for their half-time lead of 1-0. but when the game restarted Exeter rallied strongly and gave the City defence a gruelling time, Ebdon eventually netting the equaliser 10 minutes after half- time.
Recovering well, the City again jumped into the lead through Jones after 75 minutes, and Giles settled the issue three minutes before time. Outstanding forward on the field was Giles, the City's centre- forward who on this showing will be difficult to displace from the leadership of the attack.
