READING 2 (Edelston, McPhee)
EXETER CITY 1 (Ebdon)
League 3rd Division South, at Elm Park. Attendance 10,713, receipts £855.
Reading:- OSullivan; Goldberg, Gulliver; Young, Ratcliffe, Henley; Fisher, Edelston, McPhee, Barney, Hargreaves.
Exeter City: Hoyle; Thompson, Johnstone; Evans, Gibson, Walker; Granville, Sutherland, Ebdon, Wright, W. Fallon.
Exeter City provided Reading with their first win of the season when the teams met at Elm Park, but the City were undeservedly beaten in a scrappy game in which defences predominated. Both forward lines lacked a sharpshooter, and neither goalkeeper had a worthwhile shot to stop after the interval. Exeter opened the score after 15 minutes when Ebdon headed a centre from Granville past OSullivan, who should have saved the shot. Edelston equalised with a penalty kick after he had been brought down by Johnstone, and a few minutes before the interval the winning goal was headed by McPhee, all the home forwards having taken part in a well constructed move, a rare event in this match.

RESERVES DRAW.
Though he missed a penalty, Angus was one of the best players on view in last night's goalless League Southern Cuptie, between Exeter City Reserves and Yeovill In his 18th season, he defended strongly and made few faulty passes.
Exeter's forwards were too light and orthodox, and fell easy victims to Yeovil's quick tackling, but Grant, the City's inside-left, showed promise, but was obviously troubled by a knee injury.
City Reserves:- Singleton; Coles, S.Rowe; Cutting, Davey, Angus; Hutchings, Grant, Smart, Vaughan, Regan.
Yeovil:- Hall; Hickman, Davis; Sibley, Doyle, Collins; Gore, Marshall, Swinfen, Boulter, Mustard.
Played at St James's Park, attendance 4,000.
