Goals are very much on the ration at St James's Park, and the one which gave Exeter City victory over Ipswich Town was a black market winner. In a game which emphasised the Grecians' lack of thrust at inside forward the City succeeded by means of a gift goal midway through the second half. The movement which brought Exeter City victory was initiated in his own half of the field by Walker. His quick intervention checked an Ipswich attack. After dispossessing Maffey he came through with the ball and gave Ebdon a well directed pass. Forceful as ever, Ebdon bludgeoned his way through, veered slightly to the right and worked to within a few yards of the Ipswich goal before driving the ball low and slantwise. Burns was there to block the shot. The ball hit his legs and rebounded to Fallon. Another shot was parried and once more the ball came back to Fallon. The winger's second attempt was helped into the net by Bell, and it was a lucky goal for Exeter.

YEOVIL TOWN 5 (Marshall, Swinfen 2, Gore 2)
EXETER CITY RESERVES 1 (Bartholomew)
Half-time Yeovil 1 Exeter 1.
Southern League Cup-tie, at Huish.
Attendance 3,000.

Yeovil:- Hall; Hickman, Davis; Sibley, Doyle, Collins; Gore, Marshall, Swinfen, Boulter, Horlock.

City Reserves:- Singleton; Coles, S.Rowe; Cutting, Bartholomew, Davey;
Granville, Vaughan, Smart, Wright, Hutchings.

Yeovil supporters have good reason to feel pleased with their football team after their convincing 5-1 victory over Exeter City Reserves in the Southern League Cup competition. Certainly the forwards cannot be accused of last season's cardinal error, that of trying to walk the ball into their opponents' net. Swinfen, Marshall and Gore are all first-time marksmen, and with his shrewd positioning Leslie Boulter, once a Welsh International forward with Brentford, was the brains of the attack. Nevertheless the first half, which came to an end with the score one all was a hard struggle. The City defence, which had played well in that period afterwards collapsed and the Yeovil forwards scored four times. Bartholomew had opened the scoring in the first half, with Marshall
replying for the Glovers.
