Reserves v Polish Navy X1
Saturday, November 1st 1947.
BRISTOL ROVERS 2 (Wookey, Morgan)
EXETER CITY 2 (Thompson, Regan)
Half-time Rovers 2 City 1.
League 3rd Division South, at Eastville.
Attendance 14,389.
Rovers:- Weare; Bamford, Watkins; Pitt, Warren, McArthur; Wookey, Hodges, Lambden, Morgan, Cranfield.
Referee:- Mr J.M.Wiltshire, Sherborne.
City: Singleton; Thompson, Johnstone; Bartholomew, Gibson, Walker;Hutchings, Mackay, Smart, Wright, Regan.
Mr Jim Wiltshire got a "big hand" from the fourteen thousand or so onlookers when he stepped out on to the Eastville ground. It was a West-country crowd's tribute to one making his first appearance at Bristol since refereeing the F.A.Cup Final last season at Wembley. How different was the closing scene, however. Mr Wiltshire left the field to an accompaniment of boos and jeers. Irate Bristol Rovers supporters thought he had erred in allowing the last goal by Regan which brought a division of the points to Exeter City. The ball had been driven quickly down the centre. Smart and Regan chased it. Warren ran across the path of Smart and fell. Regan went
past the pair of them and shot low and true into the net as Weare advanced from his goal. In a match contested with traditional keenness between long standing Western rivals there were many stoppages, and several warnings by the referee to players on both sides who allowed zeal to overcome their discretion. Exeter were a team of moods. Slow on the ball, beaten for possession with irritating frequency, uncertain in defence and seldom seen in attack, they were fortunate to cross over with no more than a single goal deficit. Their goal in the first half was netted from a penalty taken by Thompson. With fifteen minutes left Regan obtained the goal which upset the crowd.

Exeter City Res 4-0 Polish Navy X1
Exeter City Reserves beat a Polish Navy XI by 4 goals (Ebdon two, Dymond, and Vaughan) to nil in a friendly at St James's Park.
WITH THE RESERVES
Though the Polish Navy XI. which opposed Exeter City Res. at St. James's Park on Saturday showed skilful touches and were remarkably fast, they found that mere cleverness and speed were of little avail without effective finishing. The more workmanlike Exeter team won by 4-0, and had they accepted all their chances would have triumphed by a much bigger margin.
Ebdon (2), Vaughan and Dymond were the scorers, all the goals being clean-cut affairs from close range. Features of Exeter's play were the neat combination of Boylin and Dymond on the right-wing, the useful performance of Granville as a right-half, and the grand play of Davey at centre-half.
The Poles played with praiseworthy determination, and their defence earned honours for a plucky display,
