Exeter City's sparkle matched the brilliance of the late autumn sunshine in an inspired opening 30 minutes against Norwich. The City scored twice, overwhelmed the opposition, and played their best football of the season during that period. Apart from Nethercott the Norwich defenders had no effective counter to the Grecians' dashing play and cunningly planned attacks in the early stages. There was some confusion over the scorer of the first goal, but it was confirmed that Guy under pressure from Mackay had kicked the ball into his own net. No such doubts arose when the City scored again seven minutes later,
and Hutchings gave further evidence of his ability to snap up chances by driving Walker's centre into an unguarded net. Nethercott, whose only fault it was, was tempted to leave his charge by a high centre from the Exeter captain which he had no hope of reaching. Johnstone was injured in the last minute of the game when he got a kick on the knee and had to be carried off by the St John Ambulance men.

ROBINS LET UP AFTER EARLY ATTACK
Points division seems to be becoming the rule rather than the exception with Cheltenhan Town in their home games at Whaddon - road Saturday's match against Exetes providing yet another single point in an encounter which should have gone to the Robins.
Nearly 3,000 spectators saw Cheltenhand start off in dashing style, but the effort was not sustained although the early first-half lead should several times have been in- creased before the interval.
There was some general disappointment among supporters that the demands of the re- serves, who, at Locking R.A.F Station, continued the fine record of Western League vic- tories by a 5-2 win, robbed the senior team of Reeves, whose previous game with the first eleven in partnership with Whitney and Tovey gave satisfaction.
The halves on Saturday did not show to such advantage and accurate passing was poor in the extreme. Likewise, among the for wards, there was not that cohesive understanding 80 essential for a match-winning side-in fact, could teach a lesson in this respect in the way they went away from midfield only to fail with poor finishing in front of goal. Cheltenham only goal came from Crowe, while equalised from a penalty given against Adams for hands when the former Carlisle United back snapped out the ball from under the crossbar with his hand after Bates was beaten.
If ever the risk was worth taking this was the occasion but Fallon gave Bates no chance with his shot.
Exeter Team:- Hoyle; Coles, S.Rowe; Evans, Davey, Jeffrey; Boylin, Dymond, Sutherland, Grant, W.Fallon.
Played at Cheltenham, attendance 3,000.
