EXETER CITY 3 (Thompson, Sutherland, Mackay)
BRISTOL CITY 1 (Townsend)
Half-time Exeter 2 Bristol 0.
League 3rd Division South, at St James's Park.
Attendance 12,627.
City: Singleton; Thompson, Johnstone; Gibson, Davey, Walker; Dymond, Mackay, Sutherland, Evans, Regan.
Bristol:- Clack; Guy, Bailey; Morgan, Roberts, Thomas; Hopkins, Townsend, Clark, C.Williams, S.Williams.
One of the outstanding players in today's match was Fred Davey, of Crediton. In his first Football League game Davey was not overawed in the least. He went out with one object, to subdue Don Clark, the Bristol sharpshooter. How well he succeeded is shown by the fact that Clark's worthwhile scoring attempts were a close-range header which Singleton gathered and a low shot at goal which went wide. Otherwise Davey in his first season as a professional was the master of the Third Division's most highly rated leader. Mackay, the arch-schemer of the Exeter attack, also got his name in the headlines by scoring his first goal for the club. Sutherland and Thompson, the latter with a penalty, were Exeter's other scorers. Bristol City's only success was delayed until two minutes from time and scored by Townsend.

City Reserves 3 (Wright, Smart, W. Fallon)
At Plainmoor.
RESERVES LOSE.
Exeter City Reserves proved too strong for Torquay United Reserves in a Southern League Cup match at Plainmoor, yesterday and deserved their 3-0 win. Exeter packed more punch in their attack and were sound de- fensively. Torquay tried hard but were outsmarted by a team which played fast and snappy football despite the greasy surface of the pitch. Brains of the Exeter attack line was inside-left Wright, who was a constant worry to Torquay's defence. It was Wright who opened the scoring after 19 minutes with a long drive. Although Exeter had their goalkeeper off the field with a facial injury for a spell Torquay were still unable to crack their defence.
In the second hal centre forward, Smart and left-winger. Fallon, added further goals for Exeter. Torquay again played without a regular goalkeeper and Casley who kept goal is to be congratulated on his performance.
