Ray Wright was Exeter City's hero at Bristol as inside-left-cum goalkeeper, and the man who played the leading part in the side's division of the points with the Bristolians. As the City's goalkeeper from the time Singleton was injured half an hour from the start Wright gave an inspired performance. High and low shots, close range headers, centres from both wings, all came alike to Wright. He kept goal in the manner born and two of his saves from Clark will be long remembered by all those who saw them. The match contained many thrills and much excitement. The injury which caused Singleton's retirement came when the goalkeeper, in diving to save from the onrushing Thomas, was kicked on the leg. Before his injury Singleton had distinguished himself by saving a penalty taken by Clark. Wright's subsequent performance in goal has already been referred to. Dymond, playing against his former club, was the other City player to earn special distinction when he scored the equalising goal two minutes from the finish. Meeting a centre from Regan on the edge of the penalty area Dymond shot the ball home with a flashing first time drive which sailed into the net well out of the reach of the Bristol goalkeeper. It was the signal for a loud outburst of cheer ing from several hundred Exeter supporters, who had travelled up to Bristol on the G.W.R. excursion.
