SWANSEA TOWN 2 (Powell & Scrine)
EXETER CITY 0
Half-time Swansea 1 City 0.
League 3rd Division South, at Vetch Field. Attendance 14,000.
Swansea:- Howells; Feeney, Keane; Paul, Weston, Burns; Comley, Powell, Rawcliffe, Morris, Scrine.
Referee:- Mr F.J.Lowe, of Bristol.
City: Singleton; Thompson, Rowe; Bartholomew, Gibson, Walker; Hutchings, Evans, Dymond, Mackay, Regan.
In the hope of introducing more thrust into the team Exeter City re shuffled their attack. With Sutherland injured in the cup-tie on Thursday Dymond was picked to lead the forwards. Evans came in at inside right and Mackay took over at inside left to partner Regan. Another change was at left back, where Rowe displaced Johnstone, who thus missed his first game since early in the season. Allowances must be made for the bad conditions in assessing the game at Swansea, and many of the errors made by both teams can be blamed on the playing pitch, which resembled corrugated iron. With the ball coming too quickly off the frozen turf at contrary and deceptive angles correct football was impossible. There were few combined movements, but at least the players on both sides did attempt to use constructive tactics. On such a day and on such a ground, however, determination and dash counted more than science and subtlety, and because they possessed these qualities to a greater degree than Exeter the Swans deserved to win.

RESERVES COULD NOT SCORE
Exeter City Reserves did not make the most of their chances agamst Bath City, who deserved the point they obtained from a goalless game marked by finishing falures by both teams.
Exeter had hard luck in twice hitting the woodwork of the goal with Woodley he pless - one of these efforts, by winger Fallon, was the highlight of the match-but generally the home forwards showed a sad lack of thrust near goal. Ebdon tried hard to make openings against a relentless centre-half in Smith, while Lycett, who led the Bath attack in place of Scottish international McCulloch, was well sub- dued by Davey. There were no weaknesses in the City defence, Wright keeping a sound goal and half-backs and full-backs co-operating cleverly. Barley was the only Bath forward to threaten serious danger.
Team:- Wright; Coles, Blood; P.Fallon, Davey, Jeffrey; Boylin, Grant, Ebdon, Vaughan, Granville.
Played at St James's Park.
