From appearing a beaten team in the first forty minutes Exeter City revived. They were in the ascendant after the interval and scored another goal to defeat Crystal Palace by 2 to 1. It was Exeter City's first victory since January 3rd (also obtained in London) and their first success at Selhurst since 1935. But the City's performance was not entirely free from blemish. There was little co-ordination between half backs and forwards before the interval, and the brunt of an uneven struggle fell on the shoulders of Rowe, Johnstone, and Singleton in that period. Kurz shot the Palace's goal after 17 minutes and Evans equalised with three minutes to go for half-time. Four minutes from the end, after constant City pressure, Mackay netted the winning goal.

RESERVES GO DOWN

Worcester City replaced Exeter City Reserves as leaders of the Southern League by their 2-0 win at St. James's, where a crowd of more than 4,000 saw a fast and entertaining exhibition. The result was correct for Worcester were superior in the second half when Medd and Jackman scored.

Yet Exeter had ill-luck once on twice-notably when Grant crashed the ball against an upright after a wonderful dribble. Exeter's defence tired after the interval and Hoyle, a busy and capable goalkeeper, was the one man in the rearguard to earn full marks. The home forwards had good ideas in approach work, but finished badly. Granville, Grant and Fallon W., were the most prominent.

City Reserves:- Hoyle; Coles, Blood; P.Fallon, Davey, Jeffrey; Granville, Grant, Smart, Wright, W.Fallon.
Worcester:- Billingsby; Godfrey, Shelton; Brunt, Woollacott, Howell; Clift, Medd, Jackman, Jackson, Summers.

  • By their victory at St James's Park today Worcester City replace the City Reserves as leaders of the Southern League.
