None of the spectators at Carrow Road could gainsay that Exeter City were distinctly unlucky to lose by three clear goals. They had almost as much of the play as their opponents and only in effective finishing did Exeter fail. Two of the goals were scored in the last ten minutes, when the City defence was tiring, and the opening Norwich point resulted from a move which looked to be well off-side. Walker and his colleagues protested about that first goal, scored by Driver, but to no avail. Morgan's goal, scored in the 80th minute, also had an element of doubt about it, and only Hold's fine back header two minutes from the finish was free from suspicion. The City's small inside-forwards, though clever enough in approach work, persisted in close passing against the robust and burly backs and half backs of the "Canaries." In consequence very few worthwhile shots reached Nethercott. Regan was Exeter's best forward, and he was unlucky when a shot by him was headed out from under the crossbar by Tobin in the opening half with the goalkeeper well beaten.
