Exeter City deserved a better fate than a 3-2 defeat at Swindon, and with better finishing they could have won. Especially was this so in the closing stages when Swindon's defence became panicky in face of intense pressure. In the last minute, with the home defence in a tangle, Jeffrey put the ball tamely over the bar, and so vanished the last hope of the City securing a point.

Smart gave the Reserves the lead in the first half and increased it in the second, running the ball into an empty net after Ebdon had drawn the defence.
